Happiness is a Dish Best Served Cold
Yu Chun is a spot we’ve been going to for a while now, but we’re just getting around to writing a review for it. It’s off of Olympic in Koreatown in a small strip mall. You’ll usually find us here on a hot summer’s day getting down on some Naeng Myun, or Korean cold noodles. Yu Chun is by far our favorite spot for Naeng Myun.
They have several variations of Naeng Myun; however, we usually get the regular (Mul Naeng Myun) and spicy (Bibim Naeng Myun). Their noodles are the perfect texture — chewy but not too chewy and the cold broth is salty, vinegar-y and super flavorful. Sometimes the texture of Naeng Myun can be a bit off-putting at other places because it can get very chewy, but they do it just right here. The noodles are served with two slices of beef, sliced cucumbers, radish, half a hard boiled egg and a delicious red chili paste.
Ice cold noodles might sound like a strange idea, but it is an absolute must try, especially on a hot day. Nothing like an ice cold bowl of delicious buckwheat noodles to cool you down and fill you up. Both practical and delicious.
In addition to the main course of Naeng Myun, Yu Chun also serves a complimentary hot broth that is self-serve from a big thermos they have set out. The broth is less tart and more savory than the broth used for the Naeng Myun. The hot broth complements the cold noodles perfectly and you can have as much of it as you’d like!
